Gerald Holtom & Lord Bertrand Russell, Peace symbol, introduced 1958 as an arms down sign during a protest march from London to Aldermaston, England. Russell described it as a composition of the semaphore code letters N and D, for Nuclear Disarmament. Read more about the sign here.
